Restore Snapshot Volume to Another EC2 Instance

Introduction

 

Many times we have to restore volume in EC2. This post explains about process to restore snapshot volume to another EC2 Instance. Assume, you already have one EC2 machine running and taken a snapshot of the volume. Read- How to create EC2 Instance.

 

Launch EC2 machine.

  • Go and log in to the AWS Management Console.
  • In Find Services search EC2.

Restore Snapshot Volume to Another EC2 Instance

  • Select EC2.

  • Click on the Running instance to Launch Instance.
  • Click on the Launch Instance.

Launch EC2 Instance

To Launch Instance there will be 7 steps to create an EC2 Instance.

 

Step 1: Choose an Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

 

  • Select Amazon Linux 2 AMI SSD volume Type.
  • Select 64-bit.
  • Click on the next step.

Step 2: Choose an Instance Type

 

  • General-purpose t2 micro

Click Next: Configure instance Details.

Step 3: Configure Instance Details.

 

  • Leave default.
  • Click Next: Add Storage.

Step 4: Add Storage.

 

  • Set default.
  • Click Next: Add Tags.

Step 5: Add Tags.

 

  • Give Key Name, Value suggestcloud.
  • Click Next: Configure Security Groups.

Step 6: Configure Security Groups.

 

  • Click Add Rules.
  • Give HTTP, https.
  • Click on Review and Launch.

Step 7: Review Instance Launch.

 

  • Click on Launch.

 

 

  • Launch status.
  • Click on View status.

 

 

  • The instance has been launched.

 

 

  • Go to EC2 Dashboard.
  • Click on the Elastic block store.
  • Select Volumes.
  • We have already given in step 4.
  • Add Storage.

 

 

  • Go to the EC2 Dashboard.
  • Click on Elastic Block Store.
  • Select Snapshot.
  • Click on Create Snapshot.

 

 

  • Select the resource type.
  • Volume.
  • Description.
  • Click to create a snapshot.

 

 

  • Snapshot is created successfully.
  • Now go to actions and click on create an image.
  • Create an image.

 

 

  • Create an image from the EBS Snapshot.
  • Give a name description.
  • Leave all defaults.
  • Click on create.

 

 

  • Image created.

 

 

  • AMIs are created successfully.
  • Now click on lunch to restore image and snapshot to another EC2 Instance.
  • Click on Launch.

    Restore Steps:

Step 1: Choose an Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

  • Select Amazon Linux 2 AMI SSD volume Type.
  • Select 64-bit.
  • Click on the next step.

Step 3: Configure Instance Details.

  • Leave default.
  • Click Next: Add Storage.

Step 4: Add Storage.

  • Set default.
  • Click Next: Add Tags.

Step 5: Add Tags.

  • Give Key Name, Value suggestcloud.
  • Click Next: Configure Security Groups.

Step 6: Configure Security Groups.

  • Click Add Rules.
  • Give Http, https.
  • Click on Review and Launch.

Step 7: Review Instance Launch.

  • Click on Launch.

  • Launch status.
  • Click on View status.

  • The instance has been launched.
  • Click on view Instance.
